Hebei Cancer Institute was established on March 12, 1976, under the dual leadership of Hebei Health Department and Hebei Academy of Medical Sciences. In 1980, it was transferred from Hebei Academy of Medical Sciences to the 4th Hospital of Hebei Medical University, meanwhile set its location in the 4th Hospital of Hebei Medical University and implemented the unified system of hospital and institute. Administratively, it is under the dual leadership of Hebei Health Department and Hebei Medical University, and it is a public health administrative institution. It is one of the key research institutes in Hebei province.
The purpose of Hebei Cancer Institute is to carry out medical research on cancer and promote the development of health career. Aiming at the majority of people, it carries out research work on prevention, diagnosis and treatment with the combination of clinical practice. At the same time it has multiple functions such as assisting the Health Commission of Hebei Province in formulating and organizing the implementation of provincial cancer prevention and control program, carrying out scientific research on cancer prevention and control of cancer, establishing the development priority of provincial cancer research, carrying out counterpart assistance, engaging in scientific knowledge propagation and public health education, undertaking other tasks assigned by state, provincial health commission, Hebei Medical University and other superior departments.
After decades of development, Hebei Cancer Institute has made a qualitative leap in both hardware and software. In May 1999, the 4th Hospital of Hebei Medical University established scientific research center that undertaking scientific research tasks with Hebei Cancer Institute together. At present, it has epidemiology laboratory, analytical cytology laboratory, molecular biology laboratory, pathology laboratory, immunology laboratory, biological tissue specimen bank and other laboratories. There is 1 manager, 33 researchers (all have master's degree or above), and 12 technicians (8 with bachelor's degree). It has 5 doctoral supervisors and 5 master supervisors; 8 bear senior professional titles and 8 bear deputy senior professional titles; the talent echelon construction is in reasonable state. It has more than 500 scientific research equipments including laser scanning confocal microscope, liquid protein chip time of flight mass spectrometer, high energy sequencing instrument, Cell (TM) circulating tumor detection system, flow cytometer, second-generation nuclear acid sequenator, gene chip workstation, PCR instrument, etc.
Under the correct leadership of both hospital and institute, with the help from hospital’s faculty and staff, by our unremitting endeavors, the institute has gained the following achievements in last three years: in 2016, 22 SCI papers, 25 papers in national core journals, 8 national projects under research, 27 projects at ministerial and provincial-level, 3 national awards, 4 ministerial and provincial-level awards, having trained 15 with doctoral degree and 27 with master's degree; in 2017, 30 SCI papers, 62 papers in national core journals, 10 national projects under research, 25 projects at ministerial and provincial-level, 3 ministerial and provincial-level awards, having trained 13 with doctoral degree and 27 with master's degree; in 2018, 36 SCI papers, 37 papers in national core journals, 12 national projects under research, 28 projects at ministerial and provincial-level, 12 ministerial and provincial-level awards, having trained 13 with doctoral degree and 11 with master's degree.
Hebei Cancer Center, Hebei Cancer Prevention and Treatment office, Hebei Anti-cancer Association, Hebei Society of Immunology, Urban Cancer Screening Office and other institutions and societies are located at this institute.
